Ambassadorship Topic

Sports have always played a significant role in my life. Sports shapes culture, unites people, and inspires entire communities. However, as a young woman growing up in this new age of media, one thing that has caught my attention is the vast difference in how men’s and women’s sports are portrayed in the media. I find this disparity both intriguing and concerning because, despite the progress in women’s sports over the years, there still seems to be a considerable gap in how media coverage treats athletes based on gender. This topic is interesting to me, not only as a massive sports fan but also as someone invested in understanding how media shapes perceptions and narratives. From a young age, I noticed that most of the games on mainstream television were men’s sports. Male athletes and teams would dominate headlines, airtime, and social media discussions. Events like the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, and World Cup for men’s teams seemed to have more attention worldwide, while equally talented female athletes often struggled to receive even a fraction of the same coverage. This has led me to question why there is such an imbalance, despite increasing success and participation in women’s sports. I want to dive deeper into where this occurs across this media. Using platforms like ESPN, Bleacher Report, Sports Illustrated, ESPNW, TOGETHXR, Sports Girls Club, etc. To understand the causes of this disparity. Is it purely a reflection of audience demand, or are there deeper institutional biases at play?
